Dropbox Download Mac Os X 10.7.5
Overview
Special setup for Dropbox Encore on Catalina (10.fifteen)
Dropbox shared folders allow 2 users (i.due east., two accounts) share a binder of files. Encounter the Dropbox Help for more information.
But sometimes Dropbox Sharing is not what you want, e.g., independent work and home accounts. Dropbox Encore enables a 2nd instance of Dropbox to run in a single Mac OS X user business relationship.
Each instance of Dropbox must have (1) a unique Dropbox account and (ii) a dissever local Dropbox folder.
Take Notation
- Dropbox does not officially support two accounts on a single Mac account ... just it works. Dropbox does officially support a dissever Dropbox account for each user account on a single Mac.
- Folder and file icons in the second Dropbox practice not have the Dropbox "checkmark" indicating the item has been synchronized.
- Multiple, simultaneous Dropbox accounts can be confusing and lead to mistakes. Be sure to cheque out official Dropbox Sharing before experimenting with Dropbox Encore.
New: Dropbox Encore is compatible with macOS Catalina (10.xv)
Since Dropbox Encore 1.1b1 is not a "signed" awarding, a normal Open of the Dropbox Encore app fails on macOS Catalina (10.15).
See below for special setup that enables Dropbox Encore to run on Catalina.
Dropbox Encore no longer runs on Snow Leopard (ten.6) to Mavericks (10.9)
With the release of Dropbox three.viii.5, Dropbox Encore stalls in "Starting…" mode soon after its icon appears in the bill of fare bar on OS X ten.9.v and before releases. See more about this in Known Issues.
Dropbox Encore on Yosemite (10.x), El Capitan (10.11), Sierra (10.12), High Sierra (10.13), Mojave (10.14) or Catalina (ten.xv)
Dropbox Encore runs successfully with Dropbox 47.3.73 (or later on) on Yosemite (10.x) through Catalina (x.fifteen).
Note: Dropbox's Finder features are not bachelor in a Dropbox Encore folder (run into more in Known Issues).
Requirements
- Bone X x.10 (Yosemite) or later
- Dropbox 47.iii.73 (or later) installed in the master Applications folder (not the /Users/{username}/Applications folder).
- User's home binder is on the startup difficult drive.
- Two Dropbox accounts – creating your second account with this link gives you 500 MB of extra Dropbox space.
- Second Dropbox folder – see the"Launching..." step 2c below.
Installation
- Download DropboxEncore1.1b1.dmg .
- Mount the deejay image if your browser does non do it automatically. The installation binder should open automatically.
- Drag the Dropbox Encore application and driblet it on the Applications folder alias.
- Important: In Finder, create a folder for your second Dropbox folder. For example, create a new "Dropbox Encore" binder in your Home folder. (You'll need this folder the offset fourth dimension y'all launch Dropbox Encore – Dropbox volition create a "Dropbox" subfolder inside your new folder.)
Note: Y'all can verify Dropbox Encore is not a Trojan horse: Show Package Contents of the applcation package – you'll find a two-line shell script in the "Resources" folder.
Usage
The sole function of the Dropbox Encore application is to launch a 2nd instance of Dropbox, using the official Dropbox application in your Applications folder.
Launching Dropbox Encore the outset fourth dimension
- Launching Dropbox Encore for the offset time creates a 2d instance of Dropbox – a second Dropbox icon carte appears in your menu bar.
Notation:
- If launching Dropbox Encore causes the running Dropbox to quit, see the "Dropbox quits" ready below.
- Special setup on macOS Catalina:
- The Dropbox wizard leads you through setup of your 2nd account. To keep your two Dropboxes from interfering with each other, you lot must make a few departures from the default procedure. These screenshots shows selected Dropbox Setup steps that crave special setup for your second Dropbox account:
Click to overstate: a. Enter the email address of your second Dropbox account, or create a new second account. b. Click Avant-garde Settings in society to configure your second Dropbox folder. c. Choose Other... to select your Dropbox Encore folder,
e.k., the "Dropbox Encore" folder you created in your Home folder
during Dropbox Encore installation.d. Dropbox will create its "Dropbox" folder in the folder you selected. e. Proceed with the rest of Dropbox Setup.
2 Dropbox folders in Finder's sidebar
When Dropbox created its first "Dropbox" folder on your Mac, it put this folder into Finder'south sidebar. When Dropbox created its second Dropbox folder for Dropbox Encore, information technology replaced the original folder in Finders sidebar with the new Dropbox Encore binder.
Quitting Dropbox Encore
Cull Quit from the second Dropbox Encore icon menu.
Subsequent launches of Dropbox Encore
Later on the second Dropbox has finished its configuration, launching Dropbox Encore but causes the 2nd Dropbox icon to appear in your carte bar.
Start at Login
If you want your second Dropbox running all of the time, drag the Dropbox Encore application to your your "System Preferences > Accounts > Login Items" list.
More than ii Dropbox accounts
Several Dropbox Encore users have asked for more than ii Dropbox accounts. I expect any number of Dropbox accounts could exist active on a single macOS account. I accept not tried this because I accept only two Dropbox accounts.
If you'd like to experiment, ...
- Indistinguishable the Dropbox Encore application file, naming the new file something like "Dropbox Encore 3".
- Use Finder's contextual menu to Bear witness Package Contents.
- Edit the "script" file in a text editor, changing "dropbox-two" to "dropbox-iii".
When I launched my test Dropbox Encore three, it got to the betoken of asking for a Dropbox business relationship. Since I did not want to create another, I Quit the test app.
Known Issues
- Dropbox Encore 1.1b1 does not run in the background
The Dropbox Encore app sometimes runs in the foreground, i.e., with an icon in the Dock.
- Dropbox Encore must be started afterwards Dropbox
If Dropbox Encore is running, Dropbox may not launch. And then it's recommended that the standard Dropbox be launched get-go.
- Keychain Speedbump
Dropbox Encore running with the Dropbox one.2.n may run across a Keychain speedbump:
- On the showtime launch of Dropbox Encore subsequently each login, Mac Bone X reports "Dropbox wants to use the 'login' keychain." After entering your Keychain password, your 2nd Dropbox business relationship works properly.
- If y'all quit and relaunch Dropbox Encore, there is no Keychain message.
- Unsigned Application
If you take System Preferences > Security & Privacy set to allow applications only from the Mac App Store or identified developers, double-clicking the Dropbox Encore app will be blocked by macOS Gatekeeper because Dropbox Encore is non a "signed" app.
To go past this barrier, right-click (or command-click) the Dropbox Encore awarding file and choose "Open" – Gatekeeper will ask if you lot're certain you want to open the application. This special open of Dropbox Encore is needed but once; after that yous can launch Dropbox Encore with a double-click or Open at Login.
- Only ane Dropbox after a Dropbox "stealth" update
The Dropbox application updates itself from time to fourth dimension, with no notification to the user (i.e., a "stealth" update). At the showtime of the update, the installer quits both Dropbox and Dropbox Encore. Afterward the new version is installed, the installer automatically relaunches one case of Dropbox (usually the primary Dropbox).
So after a Dropbox stealth update, you'll take only 1 Dropbox icon in your menubar. Y'all must manually re-launch the missing Dropbox.
- Dropbox quits when Dropbox Encore is launched
Some Dropbox Encore users, using various macOS releases, have reported that launching Dropbox Encore causes the running Dropbox to quit, and vice versa. Consequently, but ane Dropbox account can exist active at a time.
Technical details (optional): This "auto-Quit" behavior results from Dropbox's occasional "silent" machine-upgrade. Since the Dropbox app does not accept permission to upgrade itself in the Applications folder, it downloads the new release into the ~/Library/Awarding Support/Dropbox/ folder. Afterward that, when the older Dropbox app (in the Applications binder) opens, it detects the newer Dropbox app (in the Application Support folder) and opens it. The newer Dropbox app then forces all other Dropbox apps to quit. Since Dropbox Encore is just a 2nd case of the official Dropbox app, launching Dropbox Encore causes Dropbox to quit (and vice versa).
The fix (actually a work-around) for the "auto-Quit" problem is to download and reinstall Dropbox , even if yous are already running the latest version.
Note: This set is non permanent because there is no way to disable Dropbox's automobile-upgrade feature. Then the "machine-Quit" problem may reappear. I will investigate whether Dropbox Encore can work around the problem causedby Dropbox'southward auto-upgrade.
- Dropbox features missing from the Dropbox Encore folder on Yosemite, ...
While a Dropbox app is running, information technology adds Finder features to files and folders in a Dropbox binder:
- Checkmark on synchronized items. A checkmark is added to file/folder icon in Mac OS Ten 10.6 through 10.9. On Yosemite (10.10) and after, a green checkmark icon appears to the right of a synchronized file/folder name.
- Contextual card actions to share an item and to view it on the Dropbox site.
On Yosemite and afterward, Dropbox's Finder features are not available in a Dropbox Encore folder. More precisely, the Finder integration features are not bachelor with the 2nd case of Dropbox. Thus, you can launch Dropbox Encore start if you wish it to have the Finder features.Mimic contextual carte folder/file sharing
The folder and file sharing features in Finder's contextual menu open the Dropbox website to perform sharing setup. Thus, you lot can mimic the contextual menu behavior using the Dropbox Encore carte du jour in your menu bar:
- Click the "earth" icon at the summit of the Dropbox dropdown bill of fare, which opens your Dropbox binder in your default Spider web browser.
- Navigate to the desired folder or file.
- Click the "Share" push button at the correct terminate of the binder/file.
- Dropbox menu bar icons are black
Dropbox removed its colored menu bar icon option for compatibility with Yosemite. Consequently, there's no longer a way to visually distinguish the Dropbox and Dropbox Encore icons. Clicking a Dropbox icon shows recently synced files, which is usually enough to identify the Dropbox account.
Dropbox Encore stalls at launch with Dropbox 3.8.five on Bone X 10.9.5 (and earlier)
On Mac Bone X 10.6.8 to Bone Ten x.9.5, Dropbox Encore has stopped working with the latest release of Dropbox. Specifically, after the Dropbox Encore icon appears in the menu bar, information technology stalls in "Starting…" mode. If Dropbox Encore is launched first, it starts normally, just so Dropbox subsequently stalls in "Starting…" mode.
At this time, there are but two options for using Dropbox Encore with Dropbox 3.eight.5:
- Run Dropbox or Dropbox Encore individually but not at the same time.
- Upgrade to Bone X 10.10.4, where Dropbox Encore functions normally with Dropbox 3.8.5.
Although Dropbox Encore behaves normally with earlier releases of Dropbox, downgradng Dropbox is not an option because Dropbox automatically upgrades itself to the latest release.
Investigation is underway to find a manner to cease Dropbox from upgrading itself. This is clearly non a platonic solution, only information technology may exist the only manner to continue running Dropbox Encore on OS 10 10.9.5 and earlier releases.
If yous'd similar to exist notifiied if and when this problem is resolved, please transport a brief bulletin to Ward Clark, including the version of Os X on which you are using Dropbox Encore.
Reinstall Dropbox Encore to ready some other problems
A minor number of Dropbox Encore users have reported other issues with Dropbox Encore setup or usage. So far, these problems accept resulted from departures from the "Launching Dropbox Encore the first time" instructions.
In the upshot of a trouble with Dropbox Encore, ...
- Delete the hidden Dropbox Encore configuration files: see pace four of Uninstall Dropbox Encore (next section).
- Carefully follow the steps in Launching Dropbox Encore the first time.
Uninstall Dropbox Encore
To remove Dropbox Encore from your Mac, ...
- If Dropbox Encore is running, select Quit Dropbox from its "gear" menu.
- Elevate the Dropbox Encore awarding from the Applications folder into the Trash.
- If Dropbox Encore is automatically launched at startup, remove it from your System Preferences > Accounts > Login Items.
- Use the Final awarding to delete the hidden Dropbox Encore folder, which holds account information and status information. This hidden folder is dissimilar from your visible second Dropbox folder (see Installation step #4 above).
- Launch Terminal from your Utilities folder. Terminal defaults to your "home" binder.
- Use the "rm" command to delete the hidden ".dropbox-two" folder – note that the folder name has a leading menstruum.
rm -R .dropbox-two
